Introducing Student Teacher – Chrissy Smith!
My name is Chrissy Smith and I can’t express enough how excited I am to be partnered with Growing Chefs!
I am currently finishing my Bachelor of Education at UBC with Home Economics as my specialty. I graduated last year from UBC’s Land and Food Systems Faculty, majoring with a BSc. in Food, Nutrition, and Health. My pastimes include reading, working with youth, and of course, cooking! (I absolutely love food puns and I am hungry to get started at Growing Chefs!)
My personal passion for food stems from one of my greatest teaching philosophies, trying to reconnect youth with their food by inviting them to recognize the path from seed to plate to body, all framed within the complexities of our current food system. Coming from this perspective, I believe Growing Chefs! offers a phenomenal opportunity to expose young students to a wide range of fun and engaging hands-on learning experiences. These students are at the perfect age to be introduced to fundamental food habits and practices and become conscious of what quality food looks, tastes, and feels like.
I look forward to the new experiences and learning opportunities awaiting at Growing Chefs! and I am truly excited to contribute to such a passionate and innovative community.
