The Great Rainbow Stir-fry challenge at Hasting Elementary

June 17, 2013

Hello, it’s Julina!

Today I spent the morning cooking up a storm at Hastings Elementary!  In groups, the students had written their own recipes and were ready to cook! Check out the fun recipe names they came up with:

growing chefs 476

What fun names!

The lesson went great! Each group used a variety of ingredients including: onion, green onion, bell peppers, carrots, celery, red cabbage, ginger, garlic, and even lemon and lime juice.  As the groups got to preparing their vegetables, I helped the Special Rainbow Stir-fry group prepare their ingredients. The students learned how to safely chop and dice :carrots, peppers, broccoli, onion, ginger, garlic and more!

Time to cook! I walked around observing the other groups prepare their stir fry. The students were so excited and secretive about their recipes that they accused me of being a spy as I took pictures of their stir fries!

Tasting time!  The students loved to taste test each group’s stir fry. As they ate, they liked to guess which stir fry would win each title. Now the students must wait until next week to find out whether their stir fry was the: “Most Colourful”, “Spiciest”, “Most Unique Taste”, or the “Best Use of Herbs”.

Who will win each title?
