Gift Ideas for Gardeners

December 19, 2011

Still looking for a special gift for the gardener on your list? Here are ten gift ideas that gardeners will love!

1.  Books

Sugar Snaps and Strawberries by Andrew Bellamy

The Shop in the Garden at the UBC Botanical Gardens has a huge collection of gardening books. One of their top recommendations is Sugar Snaps and Strawberries: Simple Solutions for Creating Your Own Small-Space Edible Garden by local author Andrew Bellamy. This book gives advice on growing organic food in small spaces — perfect for most Vancouverites!

2. All-Weather Hat

Gardeners spend a lot of time in the sun and rain, so a wide-brimmed, water-repellent, UV-protective hat would be much appreciated. Try  www.tilleyendurables.ca for a variety of hats that would be great for gardeners!

3. Skin Care

Gardening can be rough on the hands. Gift a gift of soap, lotion, or balm designed with gardeners in mind: some to try include Badger Balm, Gardener’s Clay Soap, or Crabtree & Evelyn’s Gardeners Collection.

4. Herb Garden

9. Gardening Classes

Give the gift of knowledge with gift certificates for gardening (and gardening-related) classes.  Check your local community centre, or check out the wide variety of workshops and classes available in the VanDusen 2012 Winter and Spring Adult Education Guide.
