Lesson 1 – Planting the Garden

April 13, 2011

Last week, 28 classes planted 23 classroom gardens with the help of their volunteer chefs. It was all sorts of fun. Here are some photos taken at Nootka Elementary school.

A most welcoming welcome!

The students first examined the seeds they were about to plant. The seeds are kindly donated to Growing Chefs! by West Coast Seeds.

Next the students filled their seed flats with soil and planted the garden!

After the seeds were planted, the students made sure to give their gardens lots of water.

The chefs and students planted beans, peas, arugula, beets, and mixed greens. Next week we’ll check in to see how the seeds are doing!
